Ooh wee, what is Mat thinking today…..While driving home, I’m crying in silence. That Cousin Bertie, she’s really hard to swallow sometimes. The way she takes the truth, put it out there for you to take head on, whew! After I had been living with her a couple of months, I was standing at the kitchen counter, eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, when she came in the back door. I stopped chewing, I look at her. She closes the door real slow standing there, looking at me. She squinted her eyes, tilted her head to the side, started to smile and said, “You, come with me.” She grabbed me by the hand and started pulling me behind her. She was pulling me so fast, I had to hurry and slam the rest of my sandwich on the kitchen table. We went into the bathroom and she locked the door. I sat on the edge of the tub and she sat next to me, got right in my face and said “I done had enough babies to know when someone else is having one. How many months that baby been sleeping in you?” I was shocked. Grammy wasn’t that good! I moved to stand up and she pulled me back down. “Answer me” she yelled. I told her almost three months. She said “Tonight, after all the kids are down, we, me and you are gonna sit in the living room and you, you, are gonna talk to me. And I mean you will not leave anything out.” She got up, unlocked the door and walked out of the bathroom like nothing happened. I thought to myself, “Yep, that’s definitely Grammy’s kin.” From the book ABANDONED NO MORE.
